Designer Naval… Ships?

Former President Trump once “called the US fleet ‘ugly.’” Did you hear about that, in the news?

Trump’s Defense Secretary, at the time, Mark Esper, mentioned Trump griping about the US fleet’s ugliness, compared to Russian and Italian ships.

It seems Trump was told by Esper that America’s ships are built for fighting. For that sort of thing. Which sort of makes sense… with the former defense secretary favoring battle worthiness over style.

But, it seems, as far as the former president was concerned, Russian and Italian warships looked “nicer, sleeker, like a real ship,” according to an article in Business Insider.

If he’d had his way, can you envision designer naval vessels, with hulls lovingly stylized by folks in the fashion world? Fighting ships with sequins and glitter festooning fashion-forward, racy hulls. I believe that’s called the ‘Festival Style?’ Imagine aircraft carriers and Navy battle cruisers all gussied up!

Or maybe a dash of ‘Bohemian’ style — a hippie look — for aircraft carriers, cruisers, subs, and all.

Although on submarines, any style statement would be a waste, since they’re beneath the ocean’s surface so much of the time.

Launching missiles into Mexico… there was that, too, during the Trump years.

More about that, right here.
