It stands for ‘old,’ you know

That ‘O’ in ‘GOP’…that’s what it stands for. ‘Old.’ Aka, stodgy, behind the times?

I’ve been on the GOP’s case — in commentary I’ve been writing — for the better part of two years. The GOP is so stuck in the mud! There’s always something to write about.

Donald, Mike P., Mitch, Lindsey, Ted, Jim J. To name a few. You guys haven’t heard things have changed?

And all that depressing, grim stuff! Darkness! Hatred!

That schtick’s getting old.

And, that’s one of the reasons why I’ve gone rogue, so to speak, writing commentary, for the fun of it, instead of the strategic plans, publicity, speeches, and such, that I wrote during a long career in corporate PR.

You and your doggoned GOP! You made me do it!

So…I’ve been writing opinion like these letters and columns:

When people in states that helped elect the current president of the US were asked if their views of the president had changed after his first two years in office, someone opined that the president couldn’t control his mouth.

And…You know, I don’t know, maybe you know. You can probably guess who said that in a speech that went on for more than two hours.

And…They’re screwing with your mind!

And…What came to me was melancholy about what had happened back then… what’s happened, at times, since then… and what’s happening at this moment in time.

And…America’s current president seemed awfully excited about ‘brand new’ Sherman tanks he was planning to have in the nation’s capitol on July 4th.

And…PR people like me… we’ve shaped what others say. And now, there’s political rhetoric that takes the game to a whole new — and disturbing — level.

And…Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) claims he was a victim of ‘McCarthyism’ after critics dubbed him ‘Moscow Mitch’ for blocking a bill to protect U.S. elections from Russian meddling,” according to the Huffington Post.

And…We’re hearing the terrible S-word again. The President and his fellow Republicans are all over Democrats, calling them Socialists. They’re even suggesting America could topple to Socialism because of the Democrats…Like all those Southeast Asian nations falling to Socialism in the 1960s? Are Republicans kidding? Are they screwing with everyone’s mind?

And…Unbeknownst? Some word, huh, in the President’s rhetoric.

And…Just recently at a rally in Ohio, for example, the president fired up his crowd when he called Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff a “pencil neck.” At other rallies, he’s yelled “Go home to mommy,” as protesters were being removed for questioning his administration’s policies. He’s even complained that protesters were being treated too gently as they were being marched out the door, suggesting they should be roughed up more.

And…Having worked in the PR business, I can’t help thinking what it would be like to be on the President’s PR team. What it would be like to be counseling a US president who rejects political correctness and American traditions, who insults, demeans, derides and lashes out, who fidgets, pivots and backpedals, and who has, as noted extensively in the media, a fraught relationship with the truth.

And…I’ve written…about our current President, and others in his orbit, talking and tweeting like they’re back in the 1960s, or even the ‘50s.

And…Media training was like military basic training, in a way.

And…You know that speech President Trump delivered at Mt. Rushmore, last Friday? The speech in which the President was lashing out, as he’s known to do, enough so to be described in the weekly magazine, The Nation, as “a merchant of anger.”

And…I saw Old Faithful, as a kid. It was exciting, when it erupted, precisely when it was due to erupt, right on schedule. But, bursting into the sky? And other words in the president’s prepared remarks

And…I’ve never been so flummoxed — so perplexed — as by the words I’m hearing, now.

And…I keep wondering why various politicians keep ignoring what people really seem to want.

And…Imagine having to tell God about a potential PR problem.

And…“In California, you have a special mask. You cannot under any circumstances take it off. You have to eat through the mask,” said President Trump, quippingly, during a campaign rally in Arizona

And…Sadly, the November 1, 2020 ‘National Day of Remembrance for Americans Killed by Illegal Aliens’ — declared by President Trump a few days before the election — seems to be a PR ploy. Perhaps, a clumsy one.

I’ve written about other things, outside of politics, as well, but there’s always so much to say about that stodgy, stuck in the mud GOP, and it’s current cast of characters.
