Still Influencing Opinion

Trying to. But not the same as I used to do…

In Army Boot Camp, a long time ago, I think I still remember doing an about-face, the first time the drill sergeant ordered our platoon to do that. You had to put one foot slightly behind you, at a slight angle, I recall. Then you had to pivot on that foot, so your body — in a smooth motion, turned all the way around.

After a long corporate PR career, I did an about-face.

I’m still attempting to influence opinion, but on the other side of the equation, so to speak. I’m writing commentary, now, in a Colorado online magazine. I’ve gone from PR to journalism. But I’m still trying to shape opinion.

I did my about-face for the fun of it, to see what it would be like. After decades writing publicity and messaging on the PR side, in business, I figured writing commentary about political communication, especially these days, would be amusing.

So…I’ve been at it, having recently written, more than 100 articles, since January, last year.

I just wrote Inspiring Hope, Defeating Despair Isn’t Cheap! About the $250 million the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is planning to spend to make everyone feel good about the pandemic.

I wrote ‘You Gotta Clean Your Floors, You Gotta Clean Your Forests…’ and Humor, Love and…That Flaming Burr Under My Saddle. And They Could Even Play Duck, Duck Goose.

And more. There’s so much to say about that cast of characters in the nation’s capital. And weird, polarizing politics. And other things.
