Well…This Ought to be Amusing!

Whether it was some crazy-ass crisis — and there were plenty of them, in the work I did — or, later, when there was some crazy-ass stuff to write about, the thought always came to me, usually at weird hours, like four in the morning, I’d be thinking: Well…this ought to be amusing! Thinking that sure beat the hell out of thinking too seriously about…just about everything.

Getting folks to think through things was fascinating when I was in PR, and, after that, as well, when I started writing articles about ‘amusing’ things, like the Great Recession, disruptive businesses and politics, getting people to think through things always has been the reason why, the objective I’ve always had in mind.

I was wondering, in one of my early articles, for example, why Republicans were using such outdated words. Calling Democrats radical lefties. They’ve been calling Dems ‘Communists’ more recently. So, let’s think about that.

Going back several decades, here’s Nikita Khrushchev, speaking at the United Nations.

Now, there’s a lefty — a Communist — for you, the late leader of Russia, who also led Russia’s Communist Party. Every other Russian ruler, over the years, a whole slew of them, has been in charge of the Communist Party. So, if you’re looking for Communists, Russia’s the place, and China, and other countries ruled by autocratic folks in government.

In bold, all cap letters for emphasis, let’s repeat that: AUTOCRATIC FOLKS! NOT HERE IN THE USA! Right?

In an article featuring a Wisconsin senator, I’ve written about the expression Don’t get cute with us!

In the Pagosa Daily Post

In other columns, I’ve mentioned professional athletes cussing in foreign languages, and I imagined having to tell God about a potential PR problem.

Writing, usually at weird hours — Well…this ought to be amusing! — always is in my mind.
