Wonder some… won’t you?

It was a few nights before Christmas when this rather crude-sounding word — ‘assholism’ — came to me. I had to look it up in the dictionary to be sure it’s a real word.

It is, and it can refer to someone who exhibits anti-social behavior, rather consistently; and who tends to say nasty things to people, without thinking of how the people will be effected by them; and who is intentionally cruel, obnoxious and heartless.

And it’s an aberration that seems, nowadays, so rampant, so pervasive, mainly because the relatively small number of people, worldwide, exhibiting such behavior, often dominate the news. Such behavior, as we’d say when I was in the PR profession, gets ink. And maybe that keeps them projecting assholism, and even personifying it, because they’re making headline news, and shaping opinion, just as dictators and their cohorts have shaped opinion, over the course of history.

And so… a few nights before Christmas, I wrote this guest column, to draw attention to what may very well be spinning out of control.

Please do wonder about this. And beware of it.
